2023 OLA ANNUAL LEADERSHIP MEETING

At the end of January, we held our first in-person Annual Leadership Meeting since 2020! The OLA Leadership team got together in Scottsdale, AZ to strategize for 2023, figure out what we can do to make the biggest impact for the community, and of course spend time bonding and enjoying the limited time together (with a salsa lesson lead by two of our very own Program Managers!).

We'd like to thank the team members at Nationwide, one of OLA's Platinum Sponsors, for their invaluable assistance in planning this year's meeting at their Scottsdale, AZ, offices. We'd also like to thank the employers of many of OLA's Leadership team members for sponsoring their travel costs associated with attending this year's meeting.

OLA @ GIS REGIONAL CONFERENCE (DFW)

Are you attending the 2023 Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS) Regional Conference in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex this upcoming week (February 17-18, 2023)?

Manuel Guerra, OLA's Director of Corporate Engagement, will be representing his company (Oliver Wyman) at the conference career fair. Stop by the Oliver Wyman booth and introduce yourself! In addition to getting to meet a member of OLA's Board of Directors, you may also learn more about a future employer!

Save the Date: CAS Student Program in San Diego

The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) is offering an in-person Student Program at this year’s Ratemaking, Product and Modeling (RPM) Seminar in San Diego, CA on March 14, 2023. Members of CAS Student Central (which is FREE to join) are invited to participate in this FREE one-day program!

CAS Student Program Attendees Will:

• Learn more about the CAS, Ratemaking, and the Property and Casualty (P&C) Industry
• Network and connect with CAS Members
• Attend professional concurrent sessions and student-specific sessions

2023 CVS Health and Aetna Concord College Day

Did you know that in 2018, CVS Health bought Aetna? Now the company is called Aetna, a CVS Health Company. 

CVS Health and Aetna Concord College Day is a half day-long virtual experience for all college students. The goal of the program is to introduce top students to CVS Health and Aetna's actuarial internship and full-time programs as well as teach students about health insurance. The event also serves as an opportunity for students to distinguish themselves in advance of the 2023 recruiting cycle, as several attendees from prior years were hired for the company's 2023 Summer Internship Program.

CVS Health and Aetna Concord College Day will take place on Friday, April 14, 2023.

Dear OLA Community,

Happy New Year! I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Director of Early Career Development. I am very excited to take on this new role within the OLA Board of Directors and help guide you all through your career journey. While Reg has left an invaluable impact on the OLA community, especially our Early Careers programs, I hope you will all join me in congratulating her and wishing her all the best as she moves up in the world to become OLA's President for 2023! She'll still be around for whatever you all may need, and please know that there is a whole team of us on the OLA Leadership team here to support you all!

With that being said, I'd like to echo Reg's introduction and welcome this year's OLA Academy (OLAA) Program Managers (PMs): Fernando Marin, Victoria Stanzel, and Trent Stastny-Perez! They will be helping me shape this year's programs and provide a strong support system for all of you - our OLA prospects - so feel free to reach out to us at academy@latinoactuaries.org if you have any questions, need advice, or would simply like to chat about anything else on your mind!

OLA @ CCA 2022 Annual Meeting

OLA members Lorena Gonzalez, Daniel Rivas, and Carolina Santiago were awarded the OLA travel scholarship to attend the Conference of Consulting Actuaries (CCA) Annual Meeting and learn about the latest trends in the actuarial field alongside hundreds of actuaries!

This group was accompanied by OLA leaders, Manuel Guerra, OLA's Director of Corporate Engagement, and Adrian Corredoira, University Relations Program Manager.

Tell us a little about yourself: I'm an avid reader and I'm especially fond of mysteries, thrillers, romance, anything that can get a reaction out of me! A fun fact about me is I couldn't tell my right from my left until I was 15 when I started learning how to drive!

How has OLA impacted your career? The Organization of Latino Actuaries has become one of my biggest support systems in helping me progress individually and professionally. OLA is united by one goal: to create a growing and supporting community for students and professionals alike. Everyone is so supportive and you are encouraged to put yourself out there with so many different opportunities available from scholarships to professional development opportunities. Getting involved with OLA was probably the best decision I've ever made in my academic career.
