OLA Launches its New Member Portal!

Dear OLA Community,

The Organization of Latino Actuaries (OLA) is excited to announce the launch of our new OLA Member Portal effective July 2022! To learn more about this launch, please read the information below.

What is the OLA Member Portal?

At its core, the OLA Member Portal (members.latinoactuaries.org) has allowed us to convert our former Excel database into online profiles for all OLA members and allies that can be updated in real-time using individual log-ins. These log-ins can use a site-specific username/password combination that you create, or you can connect your OLA Member Portal account with LinkedIn or Facebook to log-in without having to remember an extra username/password!

Our OLA Member Portal is powered by software provided by a third-party vendor called YourMembership. Please click here if you’d like to read more about their product, data privacy/security practices, and more.

Why has OLA launched a Member Portal?

As OLA celebrates its 5th Anniversary since our founding in July 2017, we’ve noted the tremendous growth we’ve experienced in both our membership and support from allies, corporate sponsors, and partners. As a result, we have sought a more efficient way to manage our growing database to better serve our community and move toward more sustainable technology. In the process of doing this, we have also found ways to introduce new features that’ll enhance the connections within and to our community. The advantages and features of the OLA Member Portal are further described below.

What information has been loaded into the OLA Member Portal?

If you have ever attended an OLA event, subscribed to our newsletter and/or database, signed-up as a volunteer, or engaged with OLA in any other way, you have likely provided OLA with information such as job title, company, email, etc. that we use to communicate with you and connect you with relevant opportunities and/or professionals. This information has been loaded into the OLA Member Portal to create your initial profile. Using your log-in, you will be able to add/modify/remove information at your convenience.

What are the advantages of having an OLA Member Portal profile?

An OLA Member Portal profile allows OLA to do the following:

  • More efficiently share information regarding upcoming events and opportunities based on member type, experience, location, etc.
  • More efficiently track event attendance and participation
  • More efficiently track volunteer activity (this will be used to create our upcoming volunteer recognition program!)
  • Provide exclusive online resources and restricted website content based on profile/member type
  • Provide ownership over the data OLA has stored for our members and allies
  • Reduce the amount of conflicting information provided via different sources and/or different periods of time
  • Remove the need to ask members and allies to complete multiple forms to engage with OLA by having everything consolidated in secure, individual profiles

By streamlining our operations, we vastly improve our stakeholder experience and are able to dedicate more time to the growth of our community and organization!

Who can see my OLA Member Portal profile?

The default profiles that have been created for everyone in our former database are private and hidden from anyone outside of OLA Leadership/Administration. Therefore, your data privacy will not change in that only OLA Leadership/Administration can view/update your data.

If you are interested in interacting with other members and allies of the OLA Community via online communities and forums that we’ll launch later this summer, you can upgrade your profile type to be visible to other OLA Member Portal users. Eligible members with these visible profiles will also be able to post their resume for our corporate sponsors to view, search job openings from our corporate sponsors, and be a part of (and search) a member directory to improve our community’s networking capabilities! We will send more information on profile upgrades in the weeks following our launch date, but please reach out to us at membership@latinoactuaries.org if you are interested in this profile upgrade option. 

What can I expect next?

Everyone in our former database received personalized log-in information via email on July 28, 2022. Those who have not previously engaged with OLA (and therefore do not have a former database record) can register for a new profile on our Member Portal.
