OLA 2026 Program Manager & Committee Application Information

OVERVIEW

The Organization of Latino Actuaries (OLA) is excited to announce the launch of the 2026 OLA Program Manager (PM) & Committee application! OLA is looking for volunteers who will help further OLA’s mission by managing OLA's programs in the Senior Program Manager (SPM) and/or PM capacity as well as volunteers serving on related Professional Committees to assist the (S)PMs in carrying out those programs.

The OLA Leadership team is composed of the Board of Directors, Senior Program Managers (SPMs), Program Managers (PMs), Professional Committees at the professional level, and its Rising Leaders Program (RLP) Student Committees at the prospect level. The diagram below illustrates how the various leadership positions work together:

Given all of these great leadership development opportunities, we encourage you to help shape the future of OLA by volunteering as an SPM, PM, or Professional Committee member!

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

Term
  • The term for both (S)PMs and Committee members commences on November 1, 2025, and terminates on December 31, 2026. (S)PMs and Committee members can reapply at the end of the year to return the following year (pending approval from the Board of Directors).
  • Note that there will be a two-month transition period in which 2026 (S)PMs and Committee members will overlap with 2025 (S)PMs and Committee members to ensure a smooth transition.
Expectations

Serving on the OLA Leadership Team is a meaningful commitment that requires professionalism, accountability, and alignment with OLA’s mission and vision. In order to accept a role on the OLA Leadership team, all (S)PMs and Committee Members will be required to sign key documents that outline the expectations and responsibilities of their role, including but not limited to:

  • OLA Leader Engagement Agreement
    Details the accountability framework for the role, including anticipated deliverables, reporting structure, key stakeholders, and metrics by which both individual and team success will be measured.
  • OLA Leader Code of Conduct
    Outlines ethical and professional standards, including expectations for external partner interactions, engagement with prospects (aspiring actuaries), confidentiality when handling personally identifiable or sensitive information, and overall conduct while serving in a leadership capacity.
  • OLA Conflict of Interest Disclosure
    Ensures transparency and integrity in decision-making and external affiliations.
  • OLA Waiver of Liability
    Acknowledges associated risks with traveling for and/or attending in-person OLA engagements.

OLA relies on its leadership team to uphold the organization’s values and deliver on its commitments to members, sponsors, and partners. Failure to meet the expectations outlined in these documents may result in immediate removal from the role.

Time Commitment
  • Senior Program Managers (SPMs)
    • SPMs will meet with their supervising member of the Board of Directors on a regular basis. The frequency will be determined by that Board member.
    • SPMs must also prepare for and attend at least 75% of the monthly one-hour OLA Leadership Council meetings.
    • We expect SPMs will spend, on average, four to five hours per week on fulfilling their position responsibilities.
  • Program Managers (PMs)
    • PMs will meet with their supervising SPM on a regular basis. The frequency will be determined by the SPM.
    • PMs will also be invited to attend quarterly meetings with the OLA Leadership Council.
    • We expect PMs will spend, on average, three to four hours per week on fulfilling their position responsibilities.
  • Committee members
    • Committee members will meet with their supervising PM(s) on a monthly basis, as needed.
    • We expect Committee members will spend, on average, one to two hours per week in assisting with responsibilities delegated to them by their PM(s).
  • Note that the time commitment for some (S)PM positions and Committees can vary seasonally (especially those centered around the Summer/Fall recruiting season).
  • OLA's Board of Directors will provide mentorship, guidance, and resources/assistance to ensure your responsibilities are manageable; we are committed to the success of our PMs and Committees!
Travel
  • We expect (S)PMs to make an effort to attend OLA's Annual Leadership Meeting in Des Moines, Iowa, from Thursday, January 29 - Saturday, January 31, 2026 (further details TBA). OLA will work with (S)PMs to cover travel and lodging expenses for this three (3) day engagement in the event they are not sponsored by their company.
    • Committee members are not currently expected to have their travel sponsored by OLA as only members of the Board of Directors and (S)PMs are invited to attend the Annual Leadership Meeting.
  • Depending on individual engagement and program funding, (S)PMs in alignment with their OLA Leader Engagement Agreement and OLA Leader Code of Conduct may also be sponsored by OLA to travel to the OLA Avanza Conference in August 2026 (exact location/dates TBD)!
    • Only those Committee members whose responsibilities are directly aligned with the OLA Avanza Conference and have demonstrated substantial contributions to the planning of this event will be considered to have OLA sponsor their travel to attend this event.

Position-specific responsibilities are listed in the "Position Descriptions" section under each respective team*.

*Note that some (S)PM positions may be filled by more than one person based on the projected time commitment. Committees will be assigned to many of the PM roles listed below, so the responsibilities delegated to Committees will align with the role descriptions for the PMs overseeing the respective Committee(s).

ELIGIBILITY & DEADLINE

Eligibility
  • We will consider applications from both actuarial and non-actuarial professionals who are passionate about expanding the pathways into the actuarial profession and the development of actuarial professionals of all backgrounds!
  • We do ask applicants come prepared with basic technical qualifications in Microsoft Office and a willingness to work with OLA’s various systems used to run the organization efficiently.
    • While most Microsoft Office technology is used (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, etc.), team members should be comfortable using Excel as this application is used by most teams for data and revenue/budget management.

Deadline

Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, October 17, 2025, 11:59 P.M. ET

Interviews will be conducted shortly after the earlier of the application deadline or the date of the application submission for those selected to proceed to the final round of selection.

Note that completing the application does not guarantee a (S)PM position or position on a Committee. In addition, there is some flexibility with current roles as we allocate resources to the highest-need programs. If selected for an interview, we will discuss your skills and preferences with you to determine where you can best fit on the OLA Leadership team!

(S)PM Applicants: we may also offer the opportunity to participate in committees related to your area of interest depending on the quality of your application and interview (if applicable) in the event that you cannot commit to the time needed to carry out a (S)PM role. Please indicate your interests accordingly on the application.

POSITION DESCRIPTIONS


Corporate Engagement Team

Building Bridges, Fueling Impact

We connect sponsors to the heart of OLA’s work, ensuring meaningful engagement and sustained support.

Overview

The Corporate Engagement Team cultivates and manages relationships with corporate sponsors and nonprofit partners who provide financial and strategic support to the Organization of Latino Actuaries (OLA). We support sponsors in maximizing the value of their partnership by maintaining communication, organizing sponsor-driven programming, and delivering relevant data. Our work directly supports OLA’s mission by aligning external support with internal programming and community needs.

Volunteer Opportunities

There will be 2 SPMs + 4 PMs selected for 2026. Responsibilities will be allocated among the following focus areas:

  • Sponsor Relationship Management (1 SPM, 2 PMs):
    Help us maintain strong, mutually beneficial relationships with our sponsors and partners. Volunteers in this function will:
    • Manage sponsor communications and requests in a timely manner.
    • Maintain sponsor contacts database on the OLA Member Portal.
    • Support and monitor sponsor benefit utilization. Strategize ways to improve the sponsor experience and enhance benefit value.
    • Develop and deliver Impact Report and other analytics to help sponsors better understand how to recruit, engage, and support the OLA community.
  • Career Center (1 SPM, 2 PMs):
    The Career Center connects OLA’s corporate sponsors with prospects who are exploring careers in actuarial science and related fields. Volunteers in this function help facilitate meaningful interactions that support sponsors’ recruiting goals and empower prospects with the opportunities to secure internships and full-time roles.
    Volunteers in this function will:
    • Organize career-related events that foster direct engagement between sponsors and prospects (e.g., Speed Networking Event, Prospect Webinars, Virtual Career Fair), and coordinate prospect outreach for these in-person and virtual events with the OLA Academy SPM.
      • These events will be facilitated in conjunction with the Rising Leaders Program (RLP) External Programming/Events Student Committee
    • Process new job postings on the OLA Career Center (job board)
    • Create dashboards that accomplish the following:
      • Deliver resume books to corporate sponsors
      • Showcase corporate sponsors’ profiles and job opportunities

Early Career Development Team

Guiding the next generation of actuaries


Volunteer Opportunities

There will be 2 SPMs + 6 PMs selected for 2026. Responsibilities will be allocated among the following focus areas:

  • OLA Academy (1 SPM, 4 PMs):
    • Each of the selected PMs will focus on one of the following areas:
      • Resume Reviews & Resume Book
      • Mock Interviews
      • Action Plan Meetings & Mentor Management
      • Participant Onboarding/Offboarding + Internal Programming/Events
      • Team Management & Operations
    • In addition to focusing on one of the areas above, each OLAA PM will oversee a rolling segment of the OLAA Participants between the time they are admitted and they are placed into a cohort with a Mentor (previously known as Coordinator). Each OLAA PM will also act as a Mentor for a group of Participants by conducting periodic check-ins in the form of Action Plan Meetings to offer support where needed.
    • Resume Reviews & Resume Book (1 PM):
      • Own the resume review process, including instructing other OLAA PMs on the process to track resume reviews, coordinating resume review volunteer training, and following up with volunteers with outstanding resume reviews
      • Provide finalized resumes to the Corporate Engagement Team for distribution to corporate sponsors by communicated deadlines
    • Mock Interviews (1 PM):
      • Own the mock interview process, including instructing other OLAA PMs on the process to track mock interviews, preparing the mock interview volunteer toolkit, and following up with volunteers with outstanding mock interviews
    • Action Plan Meetings & Mentor Management (1 PM):
      • Own the action plan meeting process, including instructing other OLAA PMs on the process to track action plan meetings, preparing the action plan meeting toolkit for OLAA Mentors, and following up with Mentors with outstanding action plan meeting requests
      • Procure OLAA Mentors from the OLA Member Portal’s volunteer database and assign OLAA Participants to cohorts that will then be assigned to Mentors
      • Ensure OLAA Mentors are aware of their responsibilities by hosting a Mentor training session as well as ensuring they are communicating regularly with their assigned OLAA PMs
    • Participant Onboarding/Offboarding + Internal Programming/Events (1 PM):
      • Create/update the OLAA Application, admit applicants to OLA Academy, and own the onboarding process for Participants via the OLA Member Portal, GroupMe/WhatsApp, and email communications
      • Track job placements in the OLA Member Portal, facilitate the annual recruiting survey (including distribution of results to the OLA Career Center team and prospects), and update participant data for any status changes throughout the year
      • Facilitate the handoff between the Pipeline Development team (for new OLA members applying to the Academy) and Membership team (for new professionals exiting the Academy) via data updates and email communications
      • Develop the strategy for virtual internal year-round programming and events offered to OLAA Participants in conjunction with the Rising Leaders Program (RLP) Internal Programming/Events Student Committee, especially the quarterly Pulse Checks! Note that virtual events hosted in coordination with Corporate Sponsors will be handled by the OLA Career Center team.
    • Team Management & Operations (1 SPM):
      • Monitor the OLA Academy (OLAA) mailbox to direct inquiries to the appropriate OLAA PM and/or staff/assistant to ensure they are answered in a timely manner
      • Coordinate with the OLA Career Center team to streamline/send prospect communications that may contain sponsor job postings, OLA/sponsor/industry program opportunities for prospects, OLA Academy announcements, etc.
      • Update the OLAA Content Hub with process updates, links to prospect communications, resources, etc.
      • Manage the weekly OLAA team meetings and record/distribute meeting notes
      • Ensure the team OneNote notebook is organized/updated with the latest information for easy reference
  • Rising Leaders Program (RLP) (1 SPM, 2 PMs):
    • Create/update the OLA Rising Leaders Program (RLP) Application, facilitate the selection of students to be admitted into the program, and complete student onboarding/offboarding
    • Work with the Director of Early Career Development to determine the points structure and incentives that will be published each Participation Period, and prepare the budget proposals to fund these incentives
    • Process students’ activity submissions to ensure timely publication of points awarded for student participation in the program
    • Manage and connect various RLP Student Committees with the respective OLA Leaders who will work with them on the assigned initiatives/programs
    • Facilitate leadership development sessions/training for RLP students in collaboration with the OLA Career Center team to ensure their growth alongside their program participation
    • Work with the Rising Leaders Program (RLP) Internal Programming/Events Student Committee and OLA Academy (OLAA) PM for Internal Programming/Events to organize virtual RLP-specific community building events year-round, such as the RLP Game Night, RLP Community Meetings, etc.

Marketing Team

Amplifying OLA’s message and reach


Volunteer Opportunities

There will be 1 SPM + 2 PMs selected for 2026. The selected volunteers will support the following under the guidance of the Director of Marketing and Marketing SPM, who will oversee all of the following areas:

  • Social Media:
    • Create multimedia content for various social media channels (i.e. LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.) to promote OLA’s programs and increase followers
    • Maintain the marketing calendar and work with the Social Media committee to create content both according to the calendar and various team needs that may come up
    • Work with other members of the OLA Leadership team to appropriately time LinkedIn/social media posts with email communications sent to the OLA community
    • Organize social media "takeovers" by members of the OLA community to showcase different OLA events and programs/initiatives
  • Website and Strategic Branding:
    • Assist the Director of Marketing in updating and maintaining the OLA Marketing Policy and Branding Guidelines/Templates in accordance with the Marketing strategy
    • Monitor LinkedIn/social media posts from the industry/community that mention OLA to ensure such content complies with the OLA Marketing Policy
    • Work with the OLA Website Committee to ensure branding standards, program information, event dates, and other information are maintained on the OLA Website

Membership Team

Growing and nurturing OLA's membership base


Volunteer Opportunities

There will be 1 SPM + 2 PMs selected for 2026. The selected volunteers will support the following under the guidance of the Director of Membership and Membership SPM, who will oversee all of the following areas:

  • Industry Engagement:
    • Collaborate with the OLA Marketing team and the Director of Membership to create and source content for the Industry Newsletters and LinkedIn posts to highlight OLA Leadership, industry/community partners, and corporate sponsors
    • Facilitate engagement across OLA’s professional membership by maintaining OLA Member Portal online communities and working with regional OLA members to organize local OLA events in-person within OLA’s event planning guidelines as set by the Director of Membership, financial guidelines as set by the OLA Treasurer, and marketing guidelines as set by the Director of Marketing
    • Work with fellow OLA Leaders to understand volunteer needs across the organization to efficiently communicate those opportunities across OLA’s membership
    • Organize mixers and coordinate outreach to OLA professionals for in-person and virtual events
  • Mentorship & Leadership Development:
    • Lead the design and implementation of a new mentorship program targeted at actuarial professionals with mid-level experience who are ready to take the next steps into leadership roles.
    • Recruit and engage senior industry leaders to serve as volunteer mentors.
      Oversee the matching process between mentors and mentees.
    • Monitor progress, gather feedback, and refine the program to ensure long-term sustainability and impact.
    • Work with the Director of Membership to understand the demographics and needs of OLA’s actuarial professionals at all career stages to create leadership development offerings for the broader actuarial community such as workshops, training sessions, and networking opportunities.
    • Collaborate with the Director of Early Career Development and the OLA Academy team to seamlessly transition OLA’s prospects to professional status in the OLA Member Portal database as well as create resources for them to ease their transition into professional life
    • Maintain OLA’s professional membership database on the OLA Member Portal, which consists of actuarial professionals and allies/volunteers

Operations Team

Behind the Scenes, Shaping the OLA Experience Across the Entire Organization!

We are the engine of OLA, managing the critical systems and logistics that power our major events and day-to-day functions.

Overview

The OLA Operations Team is responsible for the seamless execution of OLA's largest in-person event and the efficient management of our organizational infrastructure. We handle the detailed logistics, from conference planning to system administration, ensuring that every part of OLA runs smoothly. Our work is the foundation for a professional, impactful experience for all members, volunteers, and stakeholders/partners.

Volunteer Opportunities

There will be 2 SPM + 6 PMs selected for 2026. Responsibilities will be allocated among the following focus areas:

  • OLA Avanza Conference Logistics & Coordination (1 SPM, 4 PMs):
    The OLA Avanza Conference, taking place in August 2026 (location TBA), is OLA's largest in-person event of the year! The event will offer an in-person career fair, networking opportunities, and development sessions for both actuarial prospects and professionals. This team is the heart of the OLA Avanza Conference, working with OLA's contracted Event Planner and the OLA Avanza Conference Committee (made up of professionals and Rising Leaders Program Students) to ensure every detail, from the career fair to development sessions, is perfectly executed. The team's work includes:
    • Prospect Logistics & Programs (2 PMs)
      • Liaise between the Early Career Development, Financial Programs, and Operations teams to coordinate prospect applications for travel sponsorship, prospect preparation, and other logistics by participating in these teams’ meetings
      • Create and promote the OLA Avanza Conference Travel Sponsorship Program application in collaboration with the Financial Programs team, and facilitate the attendee selection process
      • Work with the Event Planner to facilitate the prospect registration process for the conference and related travel/lodging arrangements
      • Prepare the pre-departure toolkit/materials and important communications for distribution to prospect attendees on the Cvent Attendee Hub app
      • Note this team will also be responsible for managing other prospect travel sponsorship programs throughout the year in coordination with the Financial Programs team, namely the OLA @ Conference of Consulting Actuaries (CCA) Annual Meeting opportunity. Support will be provided by other OLA Leaders attending the respective event(s) for which OLA is providing prospect travel sponsorship.
    • General Logistics and Vendor/Partner Management (2 PMs)
      • Liaise between the Early Career Development, Membership, Corporate Engagement, and Operations teams to launch the Call for Session Proposals and coordinate the OLA Avanza Conference Content Selection Panel (CSP) to choose the final session lineup. Note the Event Planner will assume remaining session logistics following final decision from the CSP.
      • Ensure the attendee registration process and other event logistics that are setup by the Event Planner (i.e. A/V needs, food & beverage orders, Career Fair materials shipping, swag orders, networking meal seating assignments, etc.) align with the various expectations from the OLA Leadership teams managing relationships with various stakeholders
      • Coordinate external promotion of the OLA Avanza Conference (registration launch/deadlines, local engagement opportunities for non-event attendees, Call for Session Proposals, etc.) with the Event Planner and Operations team for distribution through and alignment with Marketing, Membership, and Corporate Engagement channels
      • Work with the event planner to prepare the pre-departure toolkit/materials, post-event surveys, and important communications for distribution to professional attendees on the Cvent Attendee Hub app
      • Report major deviations from the budget or event timeline (i.e. major schedule changes or under/over-utilization of the hotel room block) are immediately reported to the OLA Board of Directors for mitigation of potential issues
    • OLA will cover the OLA Avanza Conference (S)PMs’ travel and lodging expenses for the OLA Avanza Conference in August 2026 in the event that a (S)PM’s company does not cover these expenses. The OLA Avanza Conference (S)PMs are expected to attend this event.
      • Select OLA Avanza Conference Committee members may also qualify for a limited number of OLA’s travel sponsorship slots to attend this event pending satisfactory contributions to the team; notification will be made no earlier than May 2026.
  • OLA Leadership Team Coordination (1 SPM, 2 PMs):
    This team supports OLA's internal operations and Leadership Team support. Volunteers will manage key systems and logistics to keep the organization running smoothly from top to bottom. Responsibilities include:
    • System Management
      • Facilitate OLA Leaders' use of the Microsoft 365, including team onboarding/offboarding and assisting with technology needs/issues related to this resource
      • Maintain the OLA Member Portal and ensure its efficient use by the OLA Leadership team by creating/updating a Data Dictionary, coordinating data field creation/removal per OLA Leadership team needs, and managing data/webpage maintenance/clean-up projects
    • Content Distribution & Coordination
      • Create, update, and coordinate use of the Distribution/Updates Request Form to ensure internal and external requests for program/initiative/event promotion or external platform/webpage updates are initiated by the correct OLA Leadership teams
    • OLA Leadership Team Logistics
      • OLA Leader Travel Sponsorship Applications & Logistics
      • OLA Leader Application Launch, Review, and Interview Scheduling
      • OLA Leadership Team Training/Meeting Coordination, particularly the OLA Annual Leadership Meeting in January and the OLA Annual Leadership Summit in August

Pipeline Development Team

Building pathways for future actuaries


Volunteer Opportunities

There will be 2 SPM + 6 PMs selected for 2026. Responsibilities will be allocated among the following focus areas:

  • Financial Programs (1 SPM, 2 PMs):
    • Scholarships & Prospect Travel Sponsorship Application/Selection (1 PM)
      • Create the OLA scholarship and travel sponsorship applications and work with OLA Leadership to promote the application across various platforms and demographics.
      • Facilitate the selection process by organizing volunteers into review committees, communicating application scoring criteria, and consolidating feedback to move applicants into the next selection rounds
      • Select candidates for the Spring Speed Networking Event and support the Corporate Engagement Team in planning/executing the event
      • Process scholarship disbursement paperwork with the Treasury team to ensure checks are sent to recipients’ financial aid offices in a timely manner
      • Note this team will also be responsible for managing other prospect travel sponsorship programs in coordination with the Operations team throughout the year, namely the OLA @ Conference of Consulting Actuaries (CCA) Annual Meeting opportunity. Support will be provided by other OLA Leaders attending the respective event(s) for which OLA is providing prospect travel sponsorship.
    • Exam Support (1 PM)
      • Weekly review of applications, share with the exam review committee
      • Notify winners and study material vendors, request stipend distribution and maintain documentation
      • Respond to exam support-related questions sent to the exam support email and via GroupMe/WhatsApp
  • Outreach (1 SPM, 4 PMs):
    • K-12 Outreach (2 PMs):
      • Identify opportunities to expand OLA's reach to middle and high school students
      • Work with the OLA Scholarships PM to promote OLA scholarships and the actuarial profession to high school students
      • Support high school outreach programs such as “Desafiando el Riesgo” High School Math Competition
      • Plan virtual or in-person visits/presentations to middle and high school students in conjunction with the Rising Leaders Program (RLP) Pipeline Development Student Committee
    • Higher Education Outreach (2 PMs):
      • Facilitate the relationship between OLA and the higher education academic community across the US including professors, academic and career advisors, and actuarial program coordinators
      • Attend annual in-person campus visits to various universities, colleges, and community colleges to promote OLA programs and the actuarial profession in conjunction with the Rising Leaders Program (RLP) Pipeline Development Student Committee
      • Support Data Analysis/Management efforts for the Pipeline Development Team
      • Identify opportunities to expand OLA's reach to the academic community

Treasury Team

Keeping OLA's finances in top shape


Volunteer Opportunities

There will be 1 SPM + 1 PM selected for 2026. The selected volunteers will support the following under the guidance of the Treasurer and Treasury SPM, who will oversee all of the following areas:

  • Assist the OLA Treasury team ensuring all Treasury needs (i.e. expense reimbursements, revenue tracking, review and distribution of financial reports, audits) are met by OLA’s various consultants acting as controllers and accountants for the organization.
  • Provide support to prepare quarterly financial reporting to the Board, and facilitate quarterly Finance Committee review meeting with the Treasurer.
  • Maintain the Donation Statement and payment status fields of the Corporate Sponsor database in the OLA Member Portal in collaboration with the Corporate Engagement team.
