Definitions

Online Community: The OLA Member Portal online community is the visible component of the OLA Member Portal that contains features that are only available to upgraded members. This online community is restricted to upgraded members to ensure they understand that certain information in their profile must be visible in order to participate in the online community and take advantage of those upgraded features.

Member Type: Your member type determines the features you can access within the online community once your profile is upgraded. The member type is selected upon registration (or by invitation-only for corporate sponsors, industry/community partners, etc.). For example, industry corporate sponsors at certain sponsorship levels are assigned a member type that provides them with access to the Career Center. If you believe the member type assigned to your profile is incorrect, please reach out to us at MemberPortal@latinoactuaries.org to have this corrected.

Online Community Group: Online community groups are set-up within the online community based on shared interests or characteristics to enable more relevant connections. The groups you can join are dependent on your member type, and some groups can only be joined using an invitation-only link (or manually by an OLA Member Portal administrator). These groups allow you to access and share files with other members of the group, participate in group-specific forums, and more.

Directory Search: Once your profile is upgraded, you'll be able to access the OLA Member Portal directory to search for and see other upgraded members within your member type and/or online community groups in which you participate.

Public Profile: Your public profile consists of the aspects of your upgraded OLA Member Portal profile that are visible to other members of the online community. For example, if you set your university and/or company fields to "Visible", then those items will be displayed on your public profile. You can always restrict the visibility of any data field you have populated so that it will not be displayed in your public profile. Please see the "Tutorials" page for more guidance on how to do this.

Connection: If you'd like to view the public profile of any upgraded member found via directory search results, you'll be able to send that member a connection request. This is similar to sending a "Friend Request" or "Follow Request" on other social media platforms in that only the member's name, city, and state are visible in the directory search results until they accept a connection request. Once a member accepts a connection request, their public profile will be visible to that new connection.

Terms of Agreement

By indicating your consent to upgrade your OLA Member Portal profile, you agree to the following:

  • Your name and city/state will be visible in directory search results. Directory search results are visible to other upgraded members within your member type and to other upgraded members of the OLA Member Portal online community groups to which you sign-up. They will only be able to see your full public profile if you accept a connection request from them. As mentioned in the Definitions, you can always restrict the visibility of data fields shown in your public profile.
  • If your member type allows access the Career Center, you agree that if you upload a resume/CV and/or input your resume/CV as written text into the resume section of your OLA Member Portal profile, your resume/CV will be visible to industry corporate sponsors with Career Center access.
  • If you are an industry corporate sponsor with Career Center access, you agree that any positions you post will show your name to members searching for open positions. Note that your public profile will still be hidden unless you accept a connection request from a member searching for an open position.
