OVERVIEW
The Organization of Latino Actuaries (OLA) is excited to announce the launch of the 2023 OLA Program Manager (PM) application! OLA is looking for volunteers who will help further OLA’s mission by managing OLA's programs in the PM capacity.
OLA, which celebrated its 5-Year Anniversary in 2022, has rapidly grown and developed a great reputation for helping Latine actuarial candidates gain entry into the profession. OLA Leadership is composed of the Board of Directors and Program Managers (PMs) at the professional level, and OLA Campus Ambassadors (as well as some PMs) at the higher education student level. The OLA PMs will assist the OLA Board of Directors in enhancing the organization's progress by increasing the number of outreach opportunities and refining OLA's vision. While PMs do not vote on OLA's financial and strategic decisions (as voting is reserved for the Board of Directors), we encourage you to help shape the future of OLA by volunteering as a PM!
If you are interested in volunteering for a PM position, then please complete the application linked at the bottom of this page by the deadline(s) outlined below.
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Term
- The term commences on January 1, 2023, and terminates on December 31, 2023, with potential for renewal pending an approval vote from the Board of Directors.
Time Commitment
- PMs will meet with their committee head (a member of the Board of Directors) on a regular basis. The frequency will be determined by the committees.
- PMs will also be invited to attend quarterly meetings with the Board of Directors.
- We expect PMs will spend, on average, one (1) to five (5) hours per week on fulfilling their position responsibilities.
- Note that the time commitment for some positions can vary seasonally (especially those centered around the Fall/Autumn recruiting season).
- OLA's Board of Directors will provide mentorship, guidance, and resources/assistance to ensure your responsibilities are manageable; we are committed to the success of our PMs!
Travel
- While not required, we expect PMs to make an effort to attend OLA's Annual Leadership Meeting in January 2023 (details TBA). OLA will work with PMs to cover travel and lodging expenses for this three (3) day engagement in the event they are not sponsored by their company.
- Depending on individual engagement and program funding, PMs may also be sponsored by OLA to travel to the ALPFA Convention in San Antonio, TX, in August 2023 for OLA's Annual Celebration!
Position-specific responsibilities are listed in the "Position Descriptions" section under each respective position*.
*Note that some positions may be filled by more than one person based on the projected time commitment.
ELIGIBILITY & DEADLINE
Eligibility**: Credentialed Latine actuaries (ACAS, ASA, FCAS, FSA) and/or non-credentialed Latine actuarial professionals (including Pre-ACAS/Pre-ASA entry-level analysts, associates, etc.)
**We will consider applications from Latine actuarial higher education students (undergraduate and graduate) who are in their final year of studies as of the beginning of their PM term.
Priority Deadline: Friday, September 30, 2022, 11:59 P.M. PT
Final Deadline: Monday, October 17, 2022, 11:59 P.M. PT
OLA will consider applications submitted by the priority deadline before those submitted by the final deadline. Interviews will be conducted shortly after the application deadline(s) for those selected to proceed to the final round of selection.
Note that completing the application does not guarantee a PM position. In addition, there is some flexibility with current roles as we allocate resources to the highest-need programs. If selected for an interview, we will discuss your skills and preferences with you to determine where you can best fit on the OLA Leadership team!
